Scultura
nello spazio

Sculpture
in space
Steel, glass, stone and charred wood in permanent dialogue with light, gravity and the precariousness of existence.
Segni d'acciaio nello spazio,
Signs of steel in space,
light, dialogue with matter
Eduard Habicher's sculptures can be large-scale works in which steel plates — some painted in flame red — enter into dialogue with materials that are only apparently contrasting.
They float lightly in space, whether natural or architectural. They combine dynamically with stone or marble, charred wood, glass. In open defiance of the laws of physics, the sculptures seem to transform into signs traced in the air, almost as if they were traces of thought, or crystallised gestures, capable of conveying a powerful emotion while at the same time leading us, through the combination of particular materials, back to the poetic dimension of nature.

attribuita a Habicher
La realtà, tutta la realtà, è precaria. Precaria, pericolante, e votata all'estinzione.
The idea that can be
attributed to Habicher
Reality — all of reality — is precarious. Precarious, tottering, and doomed to extinction. A collection of objects and subjects on the verge of falling into the abyss, of being annihilated. All of reality is on the point of being sucked in by a kind of universal gravity that drags everything towards a point of no return.
There exists, however, for any physical or biological entity, an equally universal principle of salvation. It allows beings to avoid, if only temporarily, the precipice. The artist is able to grasp this benevolent principle, in the form of an event from which that which was destined to fall is saved. He provides a force — generally weak and light — yet sufficient to perform the miracle.
The stone falling down the mountain slope symbolises this contradiction in the most obvious way. It rolls and rolls, but then a protrusion, a roughness, a root, a tree or something else holds it back, right on the edge of the ravine. We see it in balance and think: at the slightest jolt it will resume its descent.
Those who approach Habicher's art do so to reflect on today's human being — with their fears, but also with the ability to devise stratagems by which they can avoid ruin. The use of materials such as glass, wood, and stone held together by steel allows the artist to represent, simultaneously, solidity and fragility, fall and salvation, despair and the capacity to react.
